GAS TURBINE ENGINEER II
The Gas Turbine Engineer II is responsible to safely perform engineering assignments supporting the operation, maintenance, and repair of Dairyland Power’s Gas Turbine plant equipment and auxiliary systems. Recommending changes in operational methods and procedures, diagnose problems related equipment malfunctions and create safe, engineered, and cost-effective solutions. Assist in managing assigned projects related to continued life management of power plant and equipment, including short-term projects and long-term continuing programs.
The Impact You'll Make In This Role:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Perform duties as resident engineer at Dairyland’s Gas Turbine power plants as directed. Residents provide daily on-site performance and maintenance engineering support, as well as promote and enhance communication between the Operations division and the plants.
2. Technical direction, planning, and management of gas turbine maintenance outages (Combustion, Hot Gas Path, Major Inspection, Generator, etc.)
3. Documentation of outage findings, with prompt and professional reports along with repair/replace recommendations.
4. Track service bulletins for gas turbines/generators and assess implementation and compliance strategy.
5. Development and administering of plant maintenance management programs such as best practices for enhanced reliability of gas turbine operations on both natural gas and fuel oil.
6. Troubleshooting and performance of root cause analysis of Turbine and Auxiliary system equipment problems.
7. Develop technical specifications, either in-house or in cooperation with architect/engineers (A/Es), consultants, business partners, manufacturers, or vendors for the procurement of materials and services.
8. Prepare necessary in-house documentation for engineered and special maintenance projects to include project requests, work order estimates, procurement documents, business partner correspondence, project schedules, transmittals, material requisitions and receipts, and progress and completion reports.
9. Ensures company resources are used in a cost-effective manner.
10. Direct the activities of A/Es, consultants, business partners, and DPC personnel to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects.
11. Collect and review operating data to identify mechanical and performance issues.
12. Maintain cooperative and effective communications with appropriate regulatory agencies on federal, state and local levels.
13. Participate in continuing education and training programs to develop professional skills and increase technical knowledge. Maintain engineering expertise through conference attendance and cultivation of professional contacts in the power industry.
14. Conduct studies, surveys, and engineering investigations to evaluate the feasibility of engineered or special projects. Assist in the performance of engineering design review of project plans and specifications. Participate in the administrative review of proposed and final contract documents.
15. Perform engineering design calculations and prepare design sketches as necessary for engineered and special projects. Perform engineering calculations for plant maintenance and operations.
16. Compile and maintain timely, accurate and detailed logs, journals, diaries, notes, drawings and specification lists, and other suitable records for engineered and special projects. Assist in the administrative control of project records, drawings, photos and documentation.
17. Use and evaluate computer programs to model the impact of operational changes and/or unit modifications on plant operations under the direction of a senior engineer.
18. Provide support to other Operations division engineers based on experience and expertise.
19. Participate as a team member on multi-department projects or committees.
20. Will make safety a priority in all duties.
21. Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Experience and Expertise:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience: B.S. Degree in engineering or physical sciences. 4+ years’ experience as Turbine Field Engineer and/or Technical Field Advisor. Preference is given to qualified candidates who have experience with GE Frame 6B and 7FA Dual fuel units.
Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office products not limited to but including Word, Excel, and Power Point. Professional communication skills including technical report writing and presentation abilities are highly important.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver’s License. Possess or be qualified to attain Professional Engineering Registration.
Physical Demands: 25 percent of the time is spent in climate-controlled office environment, with minimal physical exertion. 75 percent of the time involves fieldwork, with a medium degree of strenuous activity. Requires near vision and fingering for computer terminal operation. Near and far vision, hearing and the following physical abilities are required for fieldwork: walking, standing, stooping/crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing hand-over-hand, crawling, twisting upper body, reaching/stretching and object maneuvering.
Environmental Demands: May work on uneven terrain, significant heights and in hot or inclement weather. Ability to work with occasional exposure to noise, high voltage/amperage electrical equipment, high pressure and/or high temperature equipment or high speed rotating equipment. Exposure to hazardous air quality environments near and within power generating stations, exposure to rotating machinery, high temperature and pressure components, high decibel noise levels, ionizing radiation, fumes and chemical hazards.
Other Job Characteristics: Team and independent worker, fast paced and high pressure, routine and variable tasks. Attention to detail. Some interaction with public, business partners, manufacturers and consultants. Occasional travel and weekend work.
