Job description

Responsible for the administration, operation and direction of activities for Accounting Services and Grant Accounting including College of Medicine/University Pediatricians clinical research post-award accounting compliance and reporting. Plans, develops and implements university wide policies and practices related to accounting, grants, internal controls, tax reporting and university audits.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Five years increasingly relevant professional experience
Two years in a management/supervisory position
Experience with accounting, audits, GASB
Ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
Ability to project a positive image through excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with grant accounting and clinical research grant accounting
Experience with university fund accounting
Experience with tax compliance
Experience with SAP or other integrated enterprise accounting systems
Experience in higher education environment
Experience in a unionized environment

Duties & Responsibilities
Supervises staff responsible for university accounting functions, including grant accounting and post-award clinical research grants
Ensures integrity of university financial records and maintains university internal controls, including recommending related policies and procedures
Maintains compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and other applicable accounting regulations/standards
Oversees tax compliance and reporting
Manages university audit and financial statement preparation, including Management Discussion and Analysis and footnotes
Prepares State of Michigan Financial Reporting (SOMCAFR)
Responsible for overseeing A133 audit
Responsible for overseeing NCAA audit
Responsible for overseeing Public Broadcasting audit
Responsible for responding to other accounting related audits
Maintain and ensure the integrity of the financial accounting system data
Develops, analyzes and presents financial reports to senior management
Maintains departmental budgets
Manages other special projects as assigned
