General Duties & Responsibilities

1. Prepares recipes, solutions, and equipment in a safe manner to provide appropriate fertilizer application rates for proper crop development.

2. Mixes and sprays or spreads fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto crops using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders and chemigation units.

3. Fills sprayer tanks with water and chemicals, according to formulas.

4. Installs liquid fertilizer equipment at pivot centers, calculates and calibrates required amounts per field.

5. Administers correct handling, transporting, storage and disposal procedures for chemicals used in a safe manner.

6. Services and maintains fertilizer pumps and equipment for optimal operation and performance.

7. Prepares and submits daily reports of chemical applications per field to Crop Foreman for review.

8. Assists Pivot Irrigation Technician in administering correct water applications during fertigation and chemigation procedures.

9. Watches gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. Navajo Agricultural Products Industry (NAPI) Page 1 of 8 HR 10-1-17: Position Description Current Approval Date: 03/10/2017

10. Lifts, pushes, and swings nozzles, hoses, and tubes in order to direct spray over designated areas.

11. Covers areas to specified depths with pesticides, applying knowledge of weather conditions, droplet sizes, elevation-to-distance ratios, and obstructions.

12. Starts motors and engages machinery, such as sprayer agitators and pumps or portable spray equipment.

13. Connects hoses and nozzles selected according to terrain, distribution pattern requirements, types of infestations, and velocities.

14. Cleans and services machinery to ensure operating efficiency, using water, gasoline, lubricants, and/or hand tools.

15. Maintains current MSDS information and product labels on chemicals used.

16. Assists Equipment Operators with equipment repairs when needed.

Commercial Fertilizer Responsibilities

1. Works collaboratively, cooperatively, and in coordination with fellow team members and with others in the organization, treats them with respect, courtesy, and consideration, and shows understanding and the appropriate support of other team members to help get the job done.

2. Provides information, guidance, and resources to diverse groups of customers, clients and others outside of the organization; treats them in a friendly manner with professionalism, helpfulness, respect, courtesy and consideration at all times regardless of circumstances.

3. Maintains regular, dependable attendance and punctuality, and physical presence at the assigned worksite; must interact directly with people or objects at the worksite on a regular basis. Communications technology may, for certain tasks and under certain circumstances, enable an employee to effectively perform some of the work-related duties from home on a temporary basis.

4. Complies with all applicable environmental health and safety policies, procedures and work rules, giving maximum effort to performing job functions in a manner that protects the health and safety of the incumbent, co-workers, and the general public.

5. Performs other duties as assigned and which are deemed necessary or desirable by NAPI.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

Required:

· High School Diploma, GED, or High School Equivalence.

· Some functions require certifications and training which will be provided by NAPI.

Preferred:

· Vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an Associate’s degree highly preferred.

· College course work in Mathematics, chemistry, biology, or related science field.

· Two or more years of experience utilizing fertigation and chemigation practices.

Substitution:

· Education/training can be substituted for previous work experience.

Preferred:

· Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) but NOT required.

Tools:

· Applicant must have his/her own tools.

· MUST have a current driver’s license

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
