Facilities Maintenance Technician

FUNCTION:

Performs building and equipment maintenance and facilities functions including but not limited to electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and general maintenance duties. Works under the direct supervision of senior operations staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Installs, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems and equipment as well as the ability to perform repairs assessments to building or equipment as needed.

2. Performs carpentry in making building alterations, drywall installation, taping/spackling furniture repairs, etc.

3. Supports custodial staff, when necessary, to maintain all company areas in a clean and orderly condition such as sweeping, washing, and waxing floors, polishing metalwork; dusting/cleaning off offices, machines, windows, etc.

4. Performs painting functions from prime to finish steps.

5. Performs other general maintenance duties such as masonry, snow removal and grounds maintenance, as required.

6. Assists in handling material and equipment. Arranges hand trucks, boxes, materials, and other articles in a neat and orderly manner.

7. Must be able to read prints, sketches, and work from verbal instruction.

8. Familiar with town codes and regulations.

9. Must have established relationships with outside vendors. Coordinates and oversees repairs and maintenance by outside vendors as needed.

10. Maintains a positive work environment by professional and courteous conduct and communications with others, including supervisors, co-workers, clients, and vendors.

11. Performs other tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Trade school classes in electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, painting and related areas preferred. Reading, writing and mathematical ability at high school level or above required. Valid, clean driver’s license and ability to drive truck, van, forklift, and related motor vehicles required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

3-5 years’ experience through all phases of maintenance work required.
