DESCRIPTION

Starting salary for this position is: $3,558 (Monthly)

Employees starting at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. If an employee starting at anything higher than the entry step of the range, will have salary step advancement after 12 months and salary step advancement every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase in salary.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Instructional Technician 2 in the SCC Automotive/Auto Collision Division.

GENERAL DEFINITION

Under general supervision of the Dean of Technical Education, the Instructional Technician performs faculty and student support duties for the Automotive/Heavy Equipment programs. Responsibilities include: prepare material and equipment for use in instruction for classes; keep detailed records of P-Card purchases and reconciliation; develop and maintain a social media presence; provide excellent and timely customer service; ensure a safe working environment; and coordinate a variety of program events.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Classroom Instructor Support

  • Prepare equipment and materials for classwork projects, prepare demonstrations as requested by instructors, assist instructors with lecture and laboratory materials, as well as conducting laboratory and/or lecture demonstrations, assist instructors in developing assignments and Canvas Shells. *
  • Research latest industry trends, equipment, and parts to support curriculum development and continuous improvement of programs. *
  • Assist students in course work assignments. *
Budget and Ordering
  • Record and process monthly purchase card statement and make daily deposits to cashier’s office. *
  • Meet with vendors to acquire the most efficient and effective equipment/products at the most reasonable cost. Train faculty on new equipment and product acquisitions. *
  • Utilize a computerized system to order, receive and maintain a parts and equipment inventory and collection of repair orders. *
  • Run counter cash register. Make daily deposits to cashier’s office and compile daily and month end totals. *
  • Assist with grant tracking, coordinating, reporting, etc.
Communication
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service. Answer emails, phone calls, and social media inquiries about the programs offered within the department. Respond in a timely manner to schedule customer appointments and potential student tours. *
  • Create and maintain social medial platforms. Develop and update content regularly and respond to potential student inquiries quickly. *
Safety
  • Act as a safety officer in the area of responsibility, maintaining areas of cleanliness. Coordinate the control of hazardous material with school officials. *
  • Inspect, maintain, service, repair, alter or rebuild existing equipment and apparatus as needed, including hoists and eye washing station. Ensure the tool room and laboratory areas are safe. Store supplies safely, maintain product safety protocols, and dispose of hazardous waste properly. *
Coordination of Program Events
  • Assist instructors during special events and functions, including information sessions, future sasquatch days, program orientations, registration, graduation, etc. Coordinate guests, reserve appropriate meeting space to accommodate the number of attendees. *
Other
  • Act as a backup to during classified position absences. Duties may include, scheduling advisory committee meetings, taking meeting minutes, processing travel, etc. *
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *

  • Indicates this is an essential duty.
This position is designated a bargaining unit position.

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS)
The following qualifications are not necessary for application but could support a candidate’s success:
  • Possess an ASE – Automotive certification in auto and truck part test, series P1-2 & 4, or any other ASE certification in collision, heavy equipment or automotive.
  • One (1) year of experience in retail selling, shipping, and receiving, or warehouse work.
  • Teaching experience in Automotive, Heavy Equipment or Collision.

CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

TOTAL COMPENSATION WITH BENEFITS: $59,963 - $75,491.

Total compensation is an estimate based upon adding the following amounts together:


  • Base compensation of $42,696 - $57,324, plus
  • Current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates, plus

The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is performed in a normal, temperature-controlled classroom environment.

  • Move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Work involves constant interruptions and requirement to answer on demand questions by phone, in person, or electronically.
  • Occasional kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
  • Frequent repetitive reaching, grabbing, and stretching.
  • Frequent oral and auditory communication with others.
  • Requires communication ability necessary to understand instructions and recognize hazardous, unsafe or poisonous materials and/or products.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Cyclic schedule (less than 12-months/40-hours a week).
  • 6-month probationary period; may be extended up to 12 months.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Criminal background check required.
