Tech180, a rapidly-growing company in the aerospace industry, is seeking a recent graduate (or student about to graduate) from an electrical engineering program who would like to pursue a career in systems engineering. This is a full-time, benefitted position based out of our Easthampton, MA office. We anticipate filling this position in early 2023 – start date is flexible and can be discussed further.

This entry-level position does not require prior experience in this industry and provides a fantastic on-the-job learning opportunity where you’ll expand your knowledge of circuits, software, and systems engineering while learning how Tech180 systems work. You’ll also learn the customer application of systems – hardware-in-the-loop testing, test scripts, avionics hardware, and flight certification.

This customer-facing role will start as an applications engineer, providing assistance to customers, senior systems engineers, and the sales team. The applications engineer is considered a systems engineer in training, with an expectation of promotion to systems engineer in 1-2 years.

This position requires up to 25% travel to assist customers on-site. (Subject to change based on government travel guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic.)

Requirements

  • Degree in electrical engineering with some software interest and experience
  • Experience with common electrical troubleshooting and tools such as oscilloscopes and DMMs
  • Ability to read and understand electrical circuits and schematics
  • Basic knowledge of 1 programming language such as python or C
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems, breaking unmanageable problems into smaller, solvable pieces
  • Ability to quickly and independently learn new things
  • Professional demeanor for a customer-facing role
  • Able to stay calm under pressure and work towards a goal
  • Able to understand and manage task priorities to support project timelines
  • An understanding of what you do and don’t know
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and schematics
  • Knowledge of requirements gathering and system design
  • Understanding of engineering assembly drawings and configuration management
  • Understanding of test sequence development
  • Basic familiarity with LabVIEW and VeriStand programming
  • Familiarity with Python programming and database knowledge

For this entry-level role, it is not necessary for candidates to meet all of the preferred qualifications. Education in electrical engineering and software, willingness to learn, and ability to problem-solve are the core requirements for this position. However, the successful candidate should expect to learn about the listed qualifications and acquire those skills and knowledge over time.

Responsibilities

The applications engineer will be responsible for tasks in both customer support and systems engineering, including:

  • Developing expertise on Tech180 systems and customer use-cases
  • Assisting sales by providing information and product details necessary for accurate proposals or proofs of concept
  • Consulting with customers on the best approaches for using tools to accomplish their test goals
  • Assisting systems engineers in design of subsets of their systems
  • Assisting with integration testing before systems are shipped to customers
  • Assisting the customer at their facility with training and onboarding
  • Resolving customer support issues remotely or on-site, depending on the case
  • Documenting known issues and finding root cause solutions to prevent them from reoccurring
  • Assisting user experience staff with collecting customer feedback

Tech180 is a small but growing company that manufactures modular test equipment for the aerospace industry. We design and build test systems to customer specifications, with multiple customer projects occurring simultaneously.
