Title: Engineering Coordinator

Location: Bonner Springs, KS or independence, MO

Position Summary: The Engineering Coordinatoris responsible for preparing estimates and quotes for project bids along with creating shop drawings and layouts for pre-cast concrete projects: manhole/intake, reinforced concrete box, and reinforced concrete pipe. This position is also responsible for managing the project and customer relationships through all phases of the project. This position will observe confidentiality of all customer and company information.

Essential functions include:

  • Manage box projects for all MO, NE and KS projects – beginning to end
  • Review proposal, contract and contract documents (drawings, specifications, addenda, etc.) to become familiar with projects to quote.
  • Track all box projects and market share
  • Carefully do take-offs and prepare quote information on bid or negotiated projects for quotes processing
  • Take control of the project from the Salesman as soon as award is received and project hand-off occurs.
  • Perform editing and data entry functions for box culvert line in JDE including managing product number assignments and generation of Customer Order Numbers.
  • Maintain drawings on all Drives with the most recent revisions in a timely manner
  • Know the schedule for all phases of the project and make sure the customer’s and productions needs are met at all times including equipment transfers and sharing between affiliate companies.
  • Clearly define the lines of communication between Rinker and the customer.
  • Keep Operations Director and Sales Director aware of anything that may jeopardize the success of the project.
  • Organize and maintain a filing system for the project that can be clearly understood by others in the absence of the coordinator of that project.
  • Assist other project coordinators on pipe and manhole projects when they have schedule conflicts.
  • Process change orders as the project proceeds and mitigate the costs where possible recognizing production schedule constraints.
  • Notify Sales and/or the Customer immediately of delays caused by others.
  • Always look for ways to revise a project in order to reduce costs.
  • Keep your respective Salesman, Sales Manager, apprised of any potential backcharges from our customers that may occur.
  • Attend contractor site meetings as required, and visit plants as needed.
  • Monitor progress of the project through to completion as needed, initiating related remedial action to resolve deficiencies.
  • Discuss production of non-typical products with production management prior to casting.
  • Participate in a post-job internal meeting on projects that have been a challenge.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering
  • Initiate orders of special auxiliary components in accordance with the contract.
  • Assist sales in managing the risks associated with project contracts to minimize Rinker’s exposure to financial loss and liability.
  • Process change orders as the project proceeds and mitigate the costs where possible recognizing production schedule constraints.
  • Regular, timely attendance to meet customer/company needs in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Performs special projects or assignments as directed.
  • Regularly travel to production facilities to review production processes and product quality.
  • Review information provided by others for accuracy in preparation of project submittals.
  • Will be involved with some QC aspects of the project

Qualified candidates should possess the following:

  • Business/technical degree (two year) in civil engineering or drafting. (EIT Preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of civil engineering concepts.
  • AutoCAD and related design software proficiency. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Works as an effective and proactive team player; understands the importance of supporting our customers and sale’s team.
  • Adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Ability to apply effective time management and self-management skills. Ability to be flexible and productive in an environment with regular interruptions.
  • Superior organization, prioritization and proactive problem solving skills.
  • Self-directed and motivated to continually evaluate and improve processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated success in balancing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to present oneself and communicate in a professional, positive, and courteous manner at all times with customers and all levels of employees.
  • Demonstrated pattern of positive attitude, strong work ethic and dedication.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license and ability to travel 15 to 20 percent of the time to plant locations and/or meetings.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
