Hourly Wage: $25.13/Regular/Full-Time


The Economic Development Coordinator works in a team environment and assists in planning economic activities relating to establishment of tribal enterprises, commercial business development, pursuing funding opportunities and fostering tribal entrepreneurship. Work involves extensive professional research, analysis, networking, program development, program planning, and finalizing economic development project plans, proposals, and funding source documents. Assists in coordination efforts with Tribal Council, tribal programs, tribal enterprises, or other agencies to recommend and implement activities that will help grow and diversify the over-all economy on the Yakama Reservation. Does research to gather, develop, and provide reliable and relevant data regarding the tribal and local community. Works to develop and implement tribal entrepreneurial training that will aid in small business development on the Yakama Reservation. Assists in the administrative workflow of the economic development staff and outside consultants.


Examples of Work Performed:

  • Receives broadly defined assignments and assists in problem identification, development of goals and objectives, determines primary and secondary data requirements.
  • Requires independent judgement to approach economic development with a studied, intellectual professionalism.
  • Will work with the program team to achieve short- and long-term priorities relating to economic development on the Yakama Reservation.
  • Assist in analyzing funding sources as to what will meet the needs of Yakama Nation without compromising established goals, objectives, and sovereignty.
  • Assists in developing professional proposals to secure funding from public and private sector through solicited and unsolicited proposals.
  • Assists in setting up system of getting contracts and grants, including submitting bids, monitoring contract process, assuring correct contract jargon, grantsmanship networking, and timeliness in reporting.
  • Develops and implements procedures for reporting directly to agencies regarding financial status reports and is responsible for timely financial narrative reporting for all grants and contracts to ensure compliance.
  • Assists in economic analysis through implementing surveys and interviews to obtain relevant data for community needs assessments and identify potential or various economic projects and enterprises.
  • Assists in development of basic business startup training to potential entrepreneurs including writing business plans, locating financial resources, and licensing requirements.
  • Attends a variety of meetings as a speaker, participant, liaison, or as assigned. (Meeting attendance is often outside of regular business/work hours).
  • Performs other related duties as necessary to assure successful Yakama Nation Economic Development Department.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of economic development principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of principles, policies, procedures, techniques, and methods of planning.
  • Knowledge of administrative matters and related regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to program areas.
  • Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting practices, principles, theories, concepts, and terms.
  • Knowledge of procedures used in compiling, tabulating, and verifying statistical data.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and private economic development grant and assistance programs.
  • Knowledge of professional grantsmanship techniques, principles, practices, and methodology.
  • Knowledge of small business operations and start up.
  • Ability to apply analytical skills in the performance of specialized assignments.
  • Ability to demonstrate technical writing skills to develop effective argumentation of a grant/contract proposal.
  • Ability to think conceptually, observe and evaluate trends, analyze data, draw logical conclusions, and make sound recommendations.
  • Ability to utilize applicable software to manipulate data into different standard formats.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, tactfully, persuasively, orally and in writing.


Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Planning, or related field, OR,
  • Five years of progressively responsible supervisory administrative work and experience and educational background demonstrating the ability to perform administrative details.
  • Required to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving Permit.
  • Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
