General Position Summary:

The Director of Youth Formation is to walk with young people (6th to 12th grade) and their families in becoming active lifelong disciples in Christ. This is accomplished through a pastoral, liturgical, and catechetical approach toward evangelization and formation. The Director of Youth Formation (DYF) provides the primary leadership for the development, coordination, supervision, and execution of parish programs designed to engage and educate the youth of the parish.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • The Director of Youth is responsible for planning and implementing an approved Youth Program, and preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation according to Diocesan guidelines.
  • Maintain and update necessary database and communication systems each year including sacramental records of those receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation
  • Develop and plan catechetical opportunities throughout the school year and summer for 6th through 12th grade, including accommodations for youth with special needs.
  • Establish a collaborative relationship with parents and families, and keep them informed of Diocesan catechetical programs, social, service, and retreat opportunities through parish social media channels
  • Prepare, maintain, and administer the program budget in collaboration with the Business Manager
  • Develop and implement programs for the spiritual formation of youth and adult leaders. These programs will encourage youth in their discernment of a calling toward ministry in the Church as they enter their adult years.
  • Organizes retreats for the youth, Sacrament of Confirmation, Search, Steubenville Conference, and mission trip.
  • Responsible for overseeing the Sunday 5 PM “Youth Mass”, including youth volunteers for Mass (readers, choir, and ushers.)
  • Attends weekly meetings with the pastor, faith formation team, and staff. Responsible for all other projects, and tasks as assigned.

  • Collects information for enrollment, attendance curriculum, and reports
  • Responds and/or sends messages and notifications to parents as needed.
  • Accountability for financial decisions within the department


Supervision Given and/or Received:

  • Supervised by the Pastor and Business Manager
  • Supervise Faith Coaches and Volunteers

  • Effectively communicate with parents, volunteers, adults as well as other church and Diocesan employees


Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Able to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods. Frequent use of computer keyboard that requires repetitive hand and wrist movements.
  • Flexible hours, frequent evening and weekend hours, occasional overnight stays.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and sitting, Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.


Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Active, practicing member of the Catholic Church in good standing
  • Knowledge/ability to share the Catholic faith
  • Experience designing and implementing a variety of catechetical programs for all ages
  • BA in Theology/Catechetics/Religious Education or a related educational field. MA preferred. One to three years of experience required
  • Successful completion of the Diocesan Safe Environment program

  • Organizational skills, including the ability to communicate well, orally and written
  • Curriculum planning
  • Ability to work with people of all ages
  • Knowledge of spiritual and personal development for all ages
  • Successful completion of the Parish Safe Environment process
  • The ability to work with and coordinate activities with staff and volunteers
  • The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Flocknote, and Parish Soft


Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel is required, up to 5% of the time for meetings and off-site events.
