This position supports the work of the YMCA of Greater San Antonio (the “Y), a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the VP of Membership and Engagement, the Director of Senior Services will oversee all ForeverWell program activities and administration of active older adult programs for the Y. This position will receive a minimum of 4 weeks Paid-Time Off, Holiday Pay, Full-time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free Y Membership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops and coordinates appropriate programming and activities to meet the needs of the community to include ForeverWell Seniors, Active Older Adults, and other senior-related activities.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
  • Assists with the planning, implementing, and instructing of Active Older Adults Group Exercise Programs and other ForeverWell Senior based wellness initiatives in accordance with strategic operating plans and grants (ARPA).
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and City of San Antonio.
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Assists in Y fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models’ relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
    of each program.
  • Maintains safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas, Y and non-Y facilities, and equipment.
  • Follows accident report procedures and policies.
  • Achieves retention goals, as well as growth of goals-income and participation.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent is preferred.
  • A strong background in experience and/or education and training in working with older adults and a genuine interest in this population is essential.
  • Requires training, certifications or experience with group exercise, program development, Y fitness programs or Y specialist training or equipment.
  • Experience in leading and safely delivering a variety of senior group formats or activities is preferred.
  • Personal leadership and commitment to health and wellness is important.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community.
  • Must understand the basic concepts of a voluntary, non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the Y as a partnership of volunteers and staff and accept a commitment to the Y mission.
  • Employee must have a working knowledge of a Mac environment, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certifications required within the first week of hire: Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous Communications
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: CPR Pro and First Aid, along with a nationally recognized group fitness certification. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • A Texas Driver’s license is required as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in a fast-paced facility environment. Position requires attending meetings at different off-site locations.
  • Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required.
  • Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative to work within deadlines.
  • Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
  • Incumbent must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, as well as, able to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils is essential.
