The UC Irvine Student Health Center is a comprehensive outpatient clinic staffed with licensed primary care physicians, psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, dentists, physician assistants, registered nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. Medical specialists from various disciplines including dermatology, orthopedics/sports medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, and ENT provide on-site consultation on a regular basis. Student Health also offers basic radiology and clinical laboratory services, insurance consultation, and an on-site pharmacy, making SHC a comprehensive and convenient clinic dedicated to serving students.
The Director of Clinic and Ambulatory Operations is responsible for ensuring successful day-to-day clinical operations at the UCI Student Health Center (SHC). The position holds primary responsibility for the operational management and financial health of the units assigned to it, and will be responsible for overseeing the operational efficiency, service, and quality of clinic services, including: Nursing Operations, Back Office Support, Front Office Operations, and Immunization Project Coordination through the effective management of direct reports. The position identifies objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages to metrics and key performance indicators, manages human, financial, and physical resources, while functioning with a high degree of autonomy. Proactively assesses risks to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operations. The Director will ensure daily patient access to clinical services, interacting with the provider and ancillary team to facilitate such access. The position reports to the Executive Director and collaborates closely with other members of the Executive Team. The Director of Clinic and Ambulatory Operations is an active member of the SHC Key Management Team.

Required:
5 - 7 years of management experience in a healthcare or medical setting at a Senior Manager level, Assistant Director level (or equivalent) or above. Experience preparing for healthcare accreditations.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Comprehensive knowledge of clinical operations. Broad knowledge associated with managing medical care units and establishing operational efficiencies. Knowledge of health care delivery systems. Comprehensive knowledge of campus policies, programs and initiatives relating to Health Care services provided to students, faculty and staff. Comprehensive knowledge of budget / fiscal related processes. Comprehensive knowledge of HR-related policies and procedures. Knowledge of union contracts and preparation of contract negotiations, in consultation with Human Resources. Skills in providing and managing the delivery of medical care services to a diverse client population. Familiarity with quality and process improvement methodology. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff at all levels in the organization, business partners and the medical community. Must have strong patient service commitment, project management and organizational leadership skills. Must be able to embrace, manage diversity and build and maintain successful teams; collaborate with medical staff members and others across campus, both internal and external, at all levels in the organization on matters of significance. Position must be able to establish priorities, goals and objectives and timelines for achievement of goals. Broad knowledge of financial transactions and financial systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements. Must be computer literate. Ability to use MS Office programs, including MS Word, Excel and Outlook. A hands-on Director with a demonstrated track record of successfully running and managing ambulatory clinic operations, including front office and back office functions. Must be able to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment. Working knowledge of federal and state regulations that impact clinic operations, including HIPAA. Ability to accurately and efficiently use EHR/EMR systems, including running reports. Experience in accreditation preparation (AAAHC or JACHO), familiarity with applicable standards. Knowledge of HIPAA (required) and FERPA Privacy Rules (preferred), and California state laws regulating privacy and confidentiality of health information.
Preferred:
Advanced degree.
RN, or Nurse Practitioner, licensed in the State of CA.
Knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Special Conditions Required:
This position’s schedule is M-F and during traditional work hours, however, weekend or non-traditional work hours may be required for special projects or busy times of the year, or when strict deadlines must be met. In the case of extended hours, this position may be required to work those hours. Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan background check, verification and continued monitoring or licensure as it applies to the position, and successful completion of our background review or credentialing process, as appropriate to the position. The employee must comply with OSHA, CA/OSHA, and CDC recommendations and requirements regarding vaccination and testing of healthcare employees. This includes, but may not be limited to; current hepatitis B immunizations, annual flu vaccinations, and annual tuberculosis screening. The employee must comply with CDPH and UC COVID-19 Vaccine Policy, by providing proof of Full Vaccination or submitting a request for Exception. Per the UC Ethics Briefing, the employee is responsible for reporting any and all potential conflicts of interest to their supervisor in a timely manner.
