JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Designer II

Department: Civil Engineering

Reports to: Project Engineer

FLSA Status: Exempt

General Summary:

The position of Designer II works under the supervision of Project Engineer or Senior Project Designer and plans and conducts work requiring judgment and application of Civil Engineering design practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role has no supervisory responsibility.

  • Project development process including construction, retail design, site planning, site engineering, structural and MEP criteria, as applicable
  • Produces contract documents conforming to applicable building and/or zoning codes
  • Works with internal/external team members as applicable
  • Checks shop drawings, conducts site visits, and assists Project Engineer or Project Designer, as needed
  • Performs most assignments with instructions only as to the general results expected
  • Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex design issues and supervisor approval on proposed plans for projects

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in shopping centers, big box retail centers, mixed use projects, fueling centers, restaurants, banks, roll out programs and commercial projects
  • Good working knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and the approval process
  • Good understanding of civil site requirements
  • Highly organized detail-driven and conscientious
  • Proficient in current version of Revit, AutoCAD, 3D Studio or Form-Z, Photoshop, PowerPoint, MS Word and MS Excel
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree or Masters degree in Civil Engineering
  • Recent graduate to 3 years of experience
