The Mission

This is a rare opportunity as we open this recruitment to all candidates (internal and external). Our agency is looking to fill a full-time, non-permanent Community Corrections Officer 3 (CCO3) position within the Community Corrections Division. This position works for our Kitsap Unit 952 located at 1014 Bay Street, Port Orchard, WA 98366. This non-permanent assignment is expected to last about ten months.

CCO3s work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to the agency's mission by improving public safety. As a lead CCO, this position provides training and coaching to other CCOs. Shift hours for this position are 0800-1700 Monday-Friday.

Duties

  • Supervise individuals ordered to supervision in the community in accordance with Washington State law, Interstate Compact Rules/Regulations, and agency policy within prescribed timeframes.
  • Engage with individuals to work towards positive change.
  • Enforce supervision conditions and the law.
  • Lead other Community Corrections Officers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Two years as a Community Corrections Officer with the Washington State Department of Corrections.
  • And a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
OR
  • A Bachelor's degree from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
  • Three years of professional experience in adult or juvenile corrections or closely related field that includes managing cases, making field visits, writing reports, assessing cases and making recommendations, referring people to appropriate resources, and presenting cases in court or hearings.
  • And a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
OR
  • A Master's degree in sociology, social work, psychology, criminology, or closely related field from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and Council for Higher Education (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
  • Two years of professional experience in adult or juvenile corrections or closely related field that includes managing cases, making field visits, writing reports, assessing cases and making recommendations, referring people to appropriate resources, and presenting cases in court or hearings.
  • And a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
Case management activities include assessment of risk factors; designing, monitoring and/or facilitating treatment plans; determining and making referrals to resources as appropriate (chemical dependency, substance abuse, family counseling, job training assistance, etc.); maintaining official records and tracking client progress/compliance; and assisting individuals who are unable to independently access support systems or community resources such as those providing food, clothing, or monetary assistance and shelter.

The successful candidate will possess the following required skills and abilities:
Community Relationships – Participates in the formation and maintenance of successful relationships with criminal justice partners and community resources.
Observation – Observes and strategizes personal action based on environmental conditions and human behavior.
Stress Tolerance – Remains calm and rational while handling difficult situations to include, but not limited to: volatile, threatening, or other crisis/emergency situations. Expertly intervenes in response to threats.
Professional Standards – Knows and applies relevant law, policy, procedure and practice. Adheres to productivity standards and timelines established by law and policy. Identifies own training needs and proactively seeks training opportunities.
Adaptability – Incorporates new information into an existing framework of understanding. Accepts change and supports the Agency through changes in law, policy, and procedure.
