As an award-winning childcare center, our goal is to provide meaningful learning experiences for children, at their individual level of development. We accomplish this by providing children with the opportunity to participate in a variety of age-appropriate, cross-curricular, hands-on activities, such as dramatic play, music, art, science, language, literature, math, cooking, field trips, guest speakers, special events, computers, sensory, games and outside play.

Job Summary

The Child Care Cook will provide the nutrition planning, meals, and management of the kitchen. This role significantly contributes to the overall well-being of the children in our care, supporting the program focus of nurturing children and families in their physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual growth.

Accountability

The Childcare Cook reports to the Director, who will administer performance appraisals to review progress toward mutually agreed upon goals and measures for success. Additionally, the xxxxxx will mentor and provide regular feedback on observed nutritional practices and kitchen management and effectiveness on a regular basis.

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain
  • Commercial kitchen experience preferred
  • 4 hours of continuing education required per year
  • Professional work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to the mission, vision, and values of

Essential Functions

Professional Conduct/Work Habits:

  • Maintain an open, trusting relationship with staff and leaders
  • Follow and encourage your colleagues to follow the personnel policies, licensing requirements, and Young Star standards of the First Lutheran Church Childcare
  • Show respect and professionalism in working with staff, families, and leaders including confidential conversations and communication
  • Show care and responsibility in your professional image to families and church volunteers

Kitchen Environment:

  • Follow procedures for equipment use, daily cleaning and sanitizing, and food storage
  • Systematically manage food inventory
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment including responsible care of equipment, materials and the facility
  • Maintain inventory of kitchen materials and equipment, report needs to Director and/or Campus

Administrator

  • Follow health policies

Menus and Records

  • Follow a pre-planned menu for all meals (breakfast, lunch, and snack)
  • Maintain CACFP paperwork and submit to biller
  • Order food, record expenses, plan for efficiency
  • Complete Meal Production records and monthly mean counts
  • Distribute information to encourage healthy nutritional habits at home
  • Create a process to reflectively assess menus
  • Assist in maintaining and developing the kitchen budget

Staff Culture and Development:

  • Collaborate in a respectful way with staff, volunteers, and leaders
  • Support the overall work of the center through presence at family and fundraising activities and events
  • Attend monthly meetings
  • Actively seek and provide feedback to promote a healthy staff and learning environment
  • With leadership, develop an individual development plan for continued growth as an educator
