Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to supervise the criminal defense of all qualified applicants within all levels of the criminal justice system. Employees in this classification perform administrative, legal work. Position is responsible for supervising department staff, preparing for and representing clients at trials and sentencing, attending jury selection, pre-trial and pre-sentence conferences, reviewing all preliminary hearing files, and preparing appeals. Performs related work as directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assigns, reviews, plans and coordinates the work activities of others. Provides work instruction and employee training. Maintains work standards and evaluates employee work performance. Responds to employee issues and grievances. Recommends and/or approves the selection, discipline and/or discharge of employees.

Reviews, approves or denies applicants seeking legal defense.

Prepares for and attends juvenile detention, adjudication and disposition hearings, plea, sentencing, ARD, mental health, revocation preliminary and extradition hearings, motions court and trials. Reviews files for hearings and trials.

Responsible for coordination and assignment of all proceedings.

Prepares for and submits appeals to Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole Commonwealth Court, Superior Court and PA Supreme Court. Attends State Board of Probation and Parole violation hearings as well as State Revocation hearings.

Attends criminal jury selection, criminal call, pre-sentencing and pre-trial conferences.

Negotiates pleas, consults with clients, explains proceedings and documents as well as performing legal research.

Prepares, administers and monitors department budget and payments

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
