FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt


GENERAL FUNCTIONS


The Day One Withdrawal Management Chemical Dependency Counselor II is responsible for providing substance use treatment and prevention services to individuals who receive an intake into 3.2 services. This position works directly with clients to motivate and educate them on the effects of addiction and possibilities of recovery. This position will work in conjunction with the client to developing individualized treatment plans utilizing assessment information and collateral date. Provide agency approved substance-use related groups, weekly individual sessions and maintain electronic charts on all client receiving service at Day one Withdrawal Management unit


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individual substance use education groups and individual sessions that support treatment plans goal, objectives and interventions focusing on best practices approved by True North Recovery Inc.
  • Create and manage clinical documentation for participants such as intakes, referral, diagnoses, treatment plans, discharge summaries, case-staffing, and progress notes.
  • Participates in the development of treatment plans for clients to alleviate current areas of impairment; assures that treatment plans include Strength, needs, abilities, preferences and goals and have problem solving objectives.
  • Uses a variety of diagnostic and rating tools to evaluate client progress, effectiveness of intervention and/or to assist treatment planning
  • Understand the uses of Trauma-Informed and Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques.
  • Educated on the delivery and able to facilitate training on overdose prevention tools to include Naloxone
  • Working knowledge of the stages of change and relapse prevention skills and the ability to facilitate groups regarding the topics.
  • Attends and participates in case staffing where current cases are reviewed; reviews cases with social and community agencies as appropriate; adheres to applicable confidentiality laws and regulations.
  • Documents daily interventions provided for clients; efficiently documents all billable interactions into AKAIM, utilizing DAP note formatting
  • Participates in weekly supervision and follows training guidelines and instructions as provided by direct supervisor.
  • Continue to stay current on training and education needed to perform duties to a high standard.
  • Administer UAs and breathalyzers as needed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS


  • Associates Degree in Social work, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, or Substance Abuse/Addiction Counseling. Relevant experience may be used in lieu on a year-for-year basis of education.
  • Alaska Chemical Dependency Counselor Certification I/II (CDC I/CDC II)
  • Working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Three years’ experience working with individual in a substance-use related field.
  • Experience implementing clinically driven services utilizing best or promising practices.
  • Experience using the current ASAM and DSM-5.
  • Demonstrated experience using an electronic health record (AKAIMS) system.
  • Understanding of community resources and referral agencies. Such as OCS, ASAP, Housing, financial aid, Social security and food resources.
  • If in recovery must be in remission for TWO (2) years and working a program of recovery.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED trained or able to abstain within 90 days of hire.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory state and federal background check, approved National Provider Identifier Standard (NPI) status, and state Approval as a Qualified Addictions Professional (QAP) or a Provisional (QAP)
  • Must have a valid Alaska Driver's License and insurable under True North vehicle insurance.

PREFERRED REQUIRMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social work, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, or Substance Abuse/Addiction Counseling.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certified.
  • Current NPI and QAP
  • Working knowledge of state DBH regulations.

SKILLS, ABILITIES,

  • Knowledge of alcoholism and drug addiction as a disease.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to respond to crises situations and emergencies with good judgment.
  • Ability to deescalate agitated clients
  • Ability to maintain healthy boundaries with clients
