The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring the well-being of patients and for providing a positive, supportive environment for patients and other staff while working in conjunction with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, front office and clinical staff. The successful Certified Medical Assistant will have strong communication skills and a dedication to customer service and patient care. This role is center-based and requires working in a clinical setting.

Work Hours: Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:00 am and 5:15 pm. Rotating Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. A 40-hour work week to be decided upon by the Practice manager upon hire.

Location : 34 Manchester Ave, Suite 201, Forked River, NJ

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares the patient for the Medical Provider’s examination by obtaining vital signs and patient history
  • Prepares and maintains the examination and treatment areas
  • Prepares the patient for and assisting with the examination
  • Prepares the patient for and assisting with procedures and treatments
  • Maintains medication and immunization records
  • Performs an inventory and stores the supplies and equipment
  • Understands proper function and care of special equipment
  • Performs routine maintenance and calibration of administrative and clinical equipment
  • Organizes and maintains medical records
  • Cooperates with other Optum employees to achieve specific team goals
  • To the extent requested by the Medical Provider, Optum Medical Assistants are also responsible for certain follow-up with patients, such as ensuring specialist appointments are scheduled and referrals are prepared
  • All Optum employees are expected to keep abreast of current medical requirements relevant to their position, which includes maintaining patient confidentiality and abiding by all HIPPA and OSHA requirements
  • Assist with front desk duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma\GED (or higher)
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification
  • Intermediate level of computer proficiency (multi-task through multiple applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word)
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time to other offices as needed and have reliable transportation
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance. Candidates must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience as a Medical Assistant performing clinical back-office duties including phlebotomy, injections, obtaining vital signs and recording medical history
  • Experience working with an electronic health record and or EPIC
  • Bilingual in Spanish and in English

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills and phone etiquette
  • Ability to multi-task
