Central Characterization Program (CCP) Mobile Loading Operator

Seeking candidates for a rewarding career opportunity to support the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) and be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. We seek a Central Characterization Program (CCP) Mobile Loading Operator at various Host Sites, this position may require heavy domestic travel.

These positions are remote. These individuals will travel to the shipping sites. Preferred locations are Carlsbad, NM, Los Alamos, NM and Aiken, SC.

The successful candidate will:

• Complete training necessary to obtain qualifications for CH/RH Packaging Operations, Incidental Rigger, and Helium Leak Detection.
• Interface with working groups and customers from outside organizations as needed to complete work scope.
• Responsible for ensuring compliant packaging operations, payload assembly and related to the shipment of TRU Mixed Waste.
• Ensure compliant closure of Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved Type B packaging in accordance with the package specific Certificate of Compliance.
• Mentor team members and provide opportunities for professional development.
• Other duties as assigned.

The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday; 10 hour days.

Exempt Salary Grade (28-32)

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree, or
• Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or
• High School Diploma or GED with eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of operational safety, conduct of operations, and quality assurance programs.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a “Q” Clearance.
• Previous experience with nuclear and/or hazardous waste/materials.
• Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Requirements:

• Basic skill in researching, and recommending alternative solutions to problems associated with the management, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, quality control and/or transportation of TRU Waste
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and the ability to interact with a variety of constituents
• Demonstrated working knowledge of CCP TRU Waste Certification activities and equipment.

Starting salary $66,098 per year *

• Base salary will be dependent upon candidate's background (i.e. education and experience)
