A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PER DIEM CAREGIVER / DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

As a per diem entry-level Caregiver / Direct Support Professional in human services, you play an essential role in providing companion care services to individuals with disabilities in accordance with their individual treatment plans. You help individuals maintain their independence in the community and during activities or job tasks. By developing and coordinating activity schedules, you help individuals find opportunities that assist with independence, community access, awareness, and social skills. You also observe behavior, skill levels, and areas of interest to provide data-based recommendations for activities and jobs.

Additionally, you help develop, revise, and implement training plans as well as ensure quality control standards align with employer and volunteer expectations. Serving as a positive role model for clients, you provide transportation to and from program activities or appointments as well as life skills training, including money management, cooking, social interactions, and transportation systems. You also assist with certain personal care needs.

As applicable, you maintain documentation and authorization for dispensing medication. You also communicate pertinent information to your team and support systems, ensuring individuals receive the full extent of our caregiver services. When needed, you help out with meal preparation, housekeeping, and outdoor maintenance tasks. You may sometimes face varied behavior issues, including physical aggression and verbal assault or inappropriate sexual comments, gestures, or acts. At times, the job can be challenging, but you take it all in stride. You enjoy providing companion care services to our clients knowing how big of a positive impact you're making in their lives!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A PER DIEM CAREGIVER / DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Commitment to providing high-quality services to individuals with disabilities in the community and in residential settings
• Ability to gain a medication certification (AMAP)
• Ability to work a flexible schedule
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Covid-19 vaccination

At least two years of work experience is preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. Do you have excellent verbal and written communication?
