Job Description:

SUMMARY

Directs activities and works with a crew of workers in custodial duties for one or more buildings; maintains inventory of cleaning supplies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Assigns and directs the work of custodial services and activities.
    • Inspects work of personnel assigned and directs corrective measures to secure satisfactory performance and to meet established standards.
    • Requisition and responsibility for securing and security of supplies and equipment.
  • Reports needed repairs.
  • Instructs employees in the methods and use of material and equipment as required for the performance of their work and maintains established standards.
  • Ensures adherence of rules and regulations and safety rules of the College and is responsible for their observance.
  • Maintains operating records as requested and records and documents work activities as required.
  • Provides input into performance evaluations.
    • May perform job duties of custodial services and activities.
    • Assigns and directs preparation and set-up for special events.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position.
  • Demonstrates regular attendance.
  • Accesses and utilizes College-prescribed software programs, including but not limited to training, email, payroll and maintenance management system.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS


Required

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of custodial experience.
  • Knowledge of processes and procedures of cleaning situations and practices.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to direct a small work crew.
  • Ability to operate electric cleaning equipment (vacuum, buffer, carpet cleaning equipment).
  • Skills in keyboarding, basic math and grammar, and basic or standard word processing (MS Word) and/or spreadsheet applications (MS Excel).
  • Proficiency with an email software package (MS Outlook) and the Internet.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license.
  • Must be able to meet College insurability requirements.
  • Must have sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.

Preferred

  • Associate’s degree in a job-related field.
  • Experience with electronic work order system.
  • Understanding/experience with quality programs and initiatives.
  • Trade licensure or certification.
  • LTO (Lift-Truck-Operator) license.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to occasionally sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste and smell. Must be able to regularly stand, walk, talk or hear. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. No special vision required. Must be able to occasionally work in wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, work with toxic or caustic chemicals, work in outdoor weather conditions and work with risk of electrical shock, radiation, vibration and bio-hazards. Must be able to regularly work with fumes or airborne particles. Must be able to work in an environment with a moderate noise level.

Special Note: This is a Full-time AFSCME Bargaining Unit position, Grade 04, 1st shift. AFSCME Employees employed with Community College will be considered first for vacant positions.

Target Hiring Rate/Salary: Minimum salary $46,779.20
