The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Bridge Maintenance, has a full-time vacancy for a Bridge Construction Foreman.

Summary: Responsible for implementing and scheduling of all bridge maintenance operations in a designated area. Supervises a crew in construction and repair projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.

Experience: Five years of experience in all phases of general bridge construction and/or bridge maintenance, two years of which involved supervising groups in bridge construction and maintenance procedures. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certificate: Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License A or B (CDL-A or CDL-B) with tank endorsement and air brakes. If the selected candidate has the Class B, then they have to obtain the Class A prior to completion of the probationary period. The applicant’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must receive a negative result on a pre-employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements.

Must have ability to climb and work from scaffolds high above the ground or water.

Must be willing to work throughout the State and during emergencies for long hours, 7 days a week.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All accountabilities must be performed in accordance with State and Department rules and policies, including risk management, safety and environmental standards, regulations and administrative orders.

Responsibilities :

Plans, directs, evaluates and assists a crew of workers engaged in construction, maintenance, safety and security inspections, and painting of bridges.

Supervises and participates in as well as trains and advises subordinators in all phases of bridge construction including: construction of concrete forms, placing reinforcement steel, welding, carpentry, placing and finishing concrete, excavating, masonry, steel fabrication and erection, cofferdams, timber bridge construction, temporary bridge construction, demolition of structures, painting structural steel, and other specialized bridge construction work.

Plans the receipt and distribution of various construction materials required for all phases of the construction or rehabilitation project.

Coordinates and implements bridge projects as directed by the Bridge Construction Superintendent, and assumes independent responsibility of projects in his/her absence.

Directs complex work zone traffic control procedures involving high speed, high volume traffic according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and Department Standards.

Prepares computerized and written reports for payroll, equipment usage, material requests, personnel evaluations, health and safety requirements and projects progress.

Supervises and assists crew with project safety requirements that are consistent with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation safety manual, the manual of Policies and Procedures and pertinent State and Federal Regulations.

Coordinates hiring and utilization of contracted and state owned equipment, supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of state owned equipment.

Controls and directs the proper handling, storage and documentation of hazardous materials, hazardous waste products and solid waste products, in accordance with State and Federal Regulations.

Oversees construction and maintenance operations in wetland areas to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
