This is an entry level position on the XLVIIs Bakery production team.

An Assistant Baker is a hard-working and reliable team member who is eager to learn and develop new skills in the pretzel baking world. An Assistant Baker actively pushes themselves to close knowledge gaps, is capable of owning and learning from their mistakes, and has the initiative to ask for help or feedback from peers and management. An Assistant Baker reports to a Lead Baker.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a supportive role to corresponding Assistant Bakers, Bakers and Leads with the following but not limited to:Prepping ingredients for the daily and weekly production schedule

Transferring, labeling and storing ingredients
Interpreting recipes
Scaling, dividing, folding and rolling dough
Shaping and baking 100s of pretzels in a gentle, attentive and efficient manner
Lye bathing, salting, baking and frying pretzels for Farmers Markets, Winter and Special events and/or orders on weekdays
Crating baked and fried pretzels for Farmers Markets, Winter and Special events and/or orders on weekdays
Sifting through and separating baked product with any quality flaws or inconsistencies
Thoroughly cleaning equipment, table tops and kitchen area

• Work in an organized, cleanly and helpful manner
• Work quickly towards meeting and maintaining pace set by Leads and Bakers
• Take direct instruction or feedback from Leads and Bakers and make adjustments accordingly
• Maintain a clean and safe work space by following the bakery’s cleaning schedule
• Follow safety and proper machinery use protocol when using industrial mixers, ovens and proofer
• Develop bakery skills and knowledge to ensure consistent quality pretzels

PREREQUISITES AND REQUIREMENTS

• Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
• Produce a valid ID and food handling certification, or help you get one
• Ability to read and follow recipes
• Demonstrate proficiency computing basic mathematical proportions
• Maintain a positive attitude despite difficult working conditions (long hours, physical demands)
• Demonstrate efficient time management and general reliability with arriving on time and completing all production tasks within the work shift
• Have strong teamwork, communication and problem solving skills
• Have the confidence to ask questions when in doubt

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions:

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• In an 8-hour work day: stand/walk for 6-8 hours
• Hand use: fine manipulation, pushing, pulling, rolling and grasping
• Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, pulling, dragging, lifting, squatting and reaching
• Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezers), >90 degrees Fahrenheit (rotating ovens)
• Ability to use heavy machinery within the bakery setting (dough rollers, dough dividers and large mixers)

POSITION SPECIFICS

• Full-time position or part-time position
• Position hours are:Monday - Friday 6.00AM - 2.30PM (High Season: April - December)

Monday - Friday 7.00AM - 1.00PM (Slow Season: January - March)
