Assistant Human Resources Manager

Havco Wood Products, LLC, the largest manufacturer of truck flooring in North America is offering an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Human Resources Manager. This is an exempt position reporting to the Plant Human Resources Manager with no direct reports.

The Assistant Human Resources Manager assists the Vonore Plant HR Manager, in various capacities. Will focus on talent management, recruitment and retention, learning plant payroll and benefits administration, training and development, succession planning, workplace culture, employee relations and engagement and other HR projects as assigned. They will also assist with the effective execution of human resource initiatives, processes and programs that support the strategic goals and objectives of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety
  • Partner with plant management to design a safe and secure working environment through the uses of controls and safeguards.
  • Must follow and help enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to OSHA and HAVCO safety rules/regulations.
  • Must identify and aid in the corrections of any safety hazards.
  • Immediately notifies the Supervisor of any safety issues or concerns.
  • Must be able to move material safely using proper lifting techniques.
  • Identify and aid in the corrections of any unsafe behavior through co-worker awareness.
Continuous Improvement
  • Must be willing to participate in and understand Root Cause Analyses (RCA) practices.
  • Must have an understanding of Continuous Improvement (CI) Structure.
  • Must be willing to participate on AD-HOC teams to eradicate or minimize issues/losses.
  • Must be willing to participate on Continuous Improvement (CI) Teams and Pillars.
Workforce/Succession Planning
  • Assists in analyzing workforce demographics to prioritize recruitment and retention strategies. Executes strategic recruitment and retention plans designed to support operational effectiveness.
  • Assists in talent management strategies, including but not limited to sourcing, recruiting, interviewing and on-boarding processes.
  • Assists in developing recruiting strategies, sources and methods to identify qualified candidates.
  • Assists in developing succession planning, timeframe and related employee development and training programs to ensure all leadership positions have an internal succession plan.
Employee Relations
  • Supports the management group in developing and creating a culture that enables all employees to successfully perform and meet organizational goals and objectives.
  • Executes employee investigations for policy violations and provides corrective action plans to resolve. Confirms that company policies and practices remain legally compliant and are administered consistently for assigned areas of responsibilities.
Training & Development
  • Assists in developing and implementing programs to achieve annual targeted improvements in voluntary turnover by implementing employee engagement programs across the operations.
  • Serves as facilitator for Key Performance Indicator (Metrics) program and related reports for respective departments. Identifies and recommends alternatives for improved organizational performance.
Compensation/Benefits
  • Reviews all plant payroll activities affecting operations employees in alignment with existing operational strategy and budgeted guidelines.
  • Assists with on-going wage analysis across the operations group to ensure pay equity.

Compliance
  • Ensure that assigned human resources responsibilities are compliant with applicable local, state and federal laws and industry regulations including, but not limited to, Title VII, ADA/ADAAA, EEOC, Immigration Reform and Control Act, FMLA, USERRA, NLRA, WARN Act, HIPAA, OSHA, Drug-Free Workplace Act, ACA and Section 125.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest legislative and regulatory changes and understand their impact on assigned responsibilities and the organization.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in business or human resources field required. MBA or Master’s degree a plus.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Experience in HR capacity in a manufacturing environment required. Previous supervisory experience required. In lieu of degree, minimum of ten (10) years in HR capacity in a manufacturing environment will be considered.
CERTIFICATION: Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of applicable local, state and federal regulations related to Human Resource activities.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ADP HRB.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position involves frequent (up to 5 hours per day) sitting and moving around an office and manufacturing environment. The work environment is climate controlled with low noise levels.
Work will involve frequent operation of standard office equipment and a computer that requires repetitive typing motion and viewing a monitor.
