Back in March of 1987 Gina and Vince Marsaglia, a pair of siblings in their 20’s, bought a struggling pizza place in the sleepy coastal town of Solana Beach, just north of San Diego. From a funky storefront on the famous Pacific Coast Highway the duo ran the “Pizza Port” with a classic menu of pizza and chicken wings to which they added their own “San Diego” twist. Early on, free space in the restaurant area was used to dabble in “home” brewing. Eventually, we were brewing more than could reasonably be consumed at “home”. So, we transitioned into the brewpub business. Pizza Port Brewing Company was born when the Pizza Port location offered its first craft-brewed beers to patrons in 1992.

Our Pizza Port locations are known for simple hand-built picnic tables and a hodge-podge décor of surf-related paraphernalia almost at odds with the sophisticated flavors of our food. Pizza Port is devoted to total customer satisfaction by providing the highest quality and the best service humanly possible while having too much fun! Currently hiring for Assistant General Manager at our Imperial Beach Pizza Port Brewing location.

Job Summary – The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible for assisting and supporting the General Manager (GM) in managing the restaurant team members as well as the daily operations at the brewpub in order to make Pizza Port Brewing Company the first choice for enjoying craft beer and amazing pizza all while having too much FUN. In order to achieve this goal, the AGM is responsible for thoroughly and effectively communicating with the GM on a regular basis, ensuring that the restaurant team is fully trained, developed, functions well, and is providing exceptional, professional and friendly service to guests while ensuring our high standards of excellence in our products. In addition, the AGM is responsible for assisting the GM in controlling cost of sales (COS), cost of labor (COL), and other controllables as well as ensuring compliance, implementing sales initiatives while maintaining a clean, safe, positive work environment. The AGM serves as the GM whenever the GM is not available.

Essential Job duties/responsibilities:

· Assist the GM in staffing by interviewing, selecting, and hiring qualified, personable restaurant team members.

o Train, motivate, develop, and improve restaurant team member’s skills and abilities through effective communication, coaching, periodic meetings, and performance management.

o Assist in the training and ongoing development of a highly efficient and functional restaurant management team.

o Set the example and uphold and enforce company practices, policies, and values.

o In conjunction with HR, Operations Manager, and GM, discipline and terminate team members as appropriate in accordance with the company practices, policies and values.

o Communicate with the GM on the daily operations and happenings within the restaurant; be the eyes and ears of the GM.

o Reinforce restaurant/bar routines and company practices; Ensure excellence in all operations (such as training, cleaning, beer line maintenance, opening/closing practices and procedures, etc.) and location safety and compliance (break management, employee paperwork, ID checking, underage drinking, etc.)

o Assist in efficient operations, monitor break management, ensure excellence in service & products, and ensure appropriate skill levels and positions on each shift.

o Ensure overall store cleanliness and proper maintenance of the building and equipment by ensuring proper usage, care and cleaning through team member training, by creating and ensuring adherence to a daily, weekly, & monthly cleaning schedule, by performing and/or scheduling regular, routine maintenance, by troubleshooting issues, and by recommending repairs and/or improvements to Management.

o Optimize operations and guest satisfaction by managing service times, systems, and people to meet company standards. Be visible and available to guests and team members.

o Be thoroughly trained and available to fill in at any job code as needed in the restaurant.

o Promote a fun, safe and happy workplace.

· Computer skills required

Other Considerations

While performing the duties of this job, the AGM is required to frequently stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, speak, and listen. Will occasionally have to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; and use hands to handle or feel and lift 45 pounds unassisted and/or move up to 160 pounds assisted. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
