Job description
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities.
Member Duties : Improve the efficiency of the Asian American Resource Center (AARC) volunteer program and continue efforts to promote volunteer opportunities for the AARC Senior Program, including English Corner and the Senior Garden. Optimize processes for tracking volunteer inquiries, implement and assess volunteer orientation practices, and update volunteer program standard operating procedures. Collaborate with community leaders and relevant organizations to address community needs for programs and services for underserved populations. Identify needs for Burmese youth and the Afghan and Syrian refugee communities in Central Texas. Create a system to allow community leaders and local organizations to develop volunteer opportunities that meet the needs of these communities, as well as support the AARC’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Assess and increase volunteer retention across volunteer opportunities, with the goal of onboarding more repeat volunteers.
