Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term until 19 June 2024 or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.

The post holder will be employed by the Department of Archaeology as an Administrative Assistant and Receptionist. The post holder will be based in the Henry Wellcome Building, Fitzwilliam Street, where they will provide reception duties and provide some administrative support for the Duckworth laboratory.

Reception duties include welcoming and directing visitors to the Henry Wellcome Building, answering telephone and email inquiries, dealing with the mail and maintaining notice boards. As receptionist, the post-holder liaises with cleaning and maintenance staff and supports the Facilities Managers in the day-to-day running of department buildings. The post-holder will make room bookings for, and provide administrative support to, Departmental Staff and act as assistant to the Teaching Administrator for all student-related issues. The Administrative Assistant supports the Teaching Administrator and Undergraduate Administrator to ensure the smooth running of teaching from admission to examination.

Administrative support for the Duckworth laboratory involves monitoring emails, tracking applications, general administrative support and collections support, such as printing labels,setting up access cards etc.

The Department has around 35 Established University Teaching Officers and Teaching Associates, several Affiliated and Unestablished Lecturers and many specialist visiting teachers in any year. There are about 90 undergraduate students taking programmes in the department in any one year, 80 MPhil students and 80 PhD students.

Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills and a good standard of written and spoken English. Competence in word processing, standard software packages (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook) and use of computers is essential, as is knowledge of office or administrative systems and procedures. Applicants should be educated to GCSE level or equivalent qualifications with grades C or above in Maths and English.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
