Experience/Skills/Education

● Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field +3 years of experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or related area, preferably in a non-profit organization or strong desire to enter the non-profit sector.

● Associate degree in finance, accounting, or a related field +5 years of experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or related area, preferably in a non-profit organization or strong desire to enter the non-profit sector.

○ OR

● HS Diploma/GED +7 years of experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or related area, preferably in a non-profit organization or strong desire to enter the non-profit sector.

● 2+ years of experience working with Finance/Accounting Software (e.g., QuickBooks)

● 1+ year experience with recording and processing payroll transactions.

● Minimum age of 21

Requirements of the Role

● Complete bookkeeping functions such as processing and depositing contributions and donations, recording in-kind donations, monitoring and processing all expenses and payment, and recording payroll transactions.

● Complete monthly and end-of-year closing process and reporting

● Complete annual budget

● Coordinate audit and tax functions including oversight of activities of outside accounting firms to ensure timely completion of 1099s as well as oversight of annual audit. Also included is a performance review of the respective firms with the BHGHSTL finance committee.

● Responsible for preparing regular cash flow analysis reports, including statements of activities, financial positions, functional expenses, variance analysis, cash flow forecasts, etc.

● Monitor grant payments, accounts receivable, and other revenue sources.

● Monitor the procurement of goods and services, ensure contract compliance, and manage financial accounting for properties and assets owned or controlled by BHGHSTL.

● Provide financial post-award support for grants and foundation awards through budget adjustments, expense posting, and other transactions. Ensure that team leaders receive routine budget updates, usage rates, and available balances on sponsored projects and additional departmental funds.

● Collaborate with departmental leaders and others in conducting monthly financial review meetings, report budget vs. actual variances, and, as needed, assist in developing appropriate plans and timelines.

● Update and maintain accounting policies and procedures and provide recommendations on changes to policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and GAAP compliance of financial operations.

● Act as a liaison to the finance committee of the Board of Directors including participation in board meeting as needed.

● As with life, priorities and duties can shift or be added to be as effective as possible for our scholars.

Bring Your Expertise:

● Knowledge of Nonprofit organizational and financial operations and protocols

● Understanding of GAAP

● Experience with grants management, including federal compliance requirements.

● Strong analytical skills with experience in financial and variance analysis

● Technology savvy and comfortable in learning and navigating new technology systems.

● Skill in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending finance operation policies and procedures.

● Proficiency in Excel, G Suite, QuickBooks, constituent relationship management (CRM) software, and time-tracking and expense software

● Commitment to strong performance, high accountability standards, and feedback openness.

● Demonstrated ability to work independently, be accountable, and manage multiple projects while being a strong team player.

● Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines, with a high level of attention to detail with highly confidential information.

● Strong written, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate complex information ability comfortably with diverse audiences.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $26.00 per hour
