Des Moines Public Schools is seeking a .5 Hospitality and Tourism Management Instructor

Job Summary:
Responsible for planning and delivering high-quality educational programs preparing students for careers by offering industry certifications, college-level curriculum, and partnerships with business and industry.

Hiring Specifications:
Applicants who are not certified teachers will be supported with mentorship and instructional coaching to learn best practices in teaching and learning as well as completing the state’s process for alternative teacher licensure. Applicants DO NOT need to be certified teachers to apply. The Initial Career and Technical Authorization can be obtained through the Board of Educational Examiners. This alternative license is valid for three years and may be issued to an applicant who has 6000 hours (or 4000 hours and a bachelor’s degree) working in an approved career and technical area, and if a district conducted a diligent search to find a fully licensed applicant.

Highly Qualified Candidates for the position will possess:
Associates Degree or diploma in subject area
Eligible for DMACC or Community College certification (Three or more years of non-teaching work experience in the career field)
Eligible for Career and Technical Authorization Teaching License
Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills

Position Details:
Contract days vary by assignment, typically 195 days
Hours vary by assignment, but typically are 7.75 days. Please refer to the attached job description for exact hours.
